ETON EXCELSIOR ROWING CLUB.
The Eton Excelsior Rowing Club held the annual race for the “King” Cup on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Tuesday’s heat produced a very fine race between two evenly-matched crews. Bucks Station was occupied by the crew composed of A. Sharratt (bow), D. S. Harrison, J. B. V. Corps and V. A. C. Wood (stroke), while the Berks boat was manned by E. Stubbs, F. W. Buck, R. H. Dyke and V. Hobbs (stroke). The two boats were practically level until the Clumps was reached, and the final margin by which Woods’ crew won was only three-quarters of a length.
On Wednesday evening Woods’ crew, which this time drew the Berks Station, opposed a boat rowed by J. N. Nicholls, N. F. Mackett, D. A. Bond, and L. Barrett (stroke). Woods’ crew went away from the start and held their lead throughout, finishing two lengths ahead of their rivals.
The race for the “Peters” Cup, presented by the late Sir G. Peters, will be rowed next Wednesday evening over the Windsor course. The crews will be:—Windsor: J. G. White, D. S. Harrison, A. E. Sharratt, V. H. Hobbs, J. B. V. Corps, J. B. Powell, F. W. Buck, V. A. C. Wood (stroke), and C. D. Dyson (cox). Eton: A. R. Verney, H. T. Hughes, W. Bedford, R. H. Dyke, A. V. Shiach, D. A. Bond, H. J. Nicholls, L. Barrett (stroke), and L. H. Dismore (cox).
