Henley Town and Visitors’ Regatta
The best boat regatta season on the Thames was brought to a conclusion on Monday when the rowing section of Henley Town and Visitors’ Regatta was decided. Although the weather was fine, a strong wind blew straight up the course against the stream. This made the conditions extremely bad for the competitors, for “white horses” were running in the Regatta Reach. Racing took place over part of the Royal Regatta course, and the Stewards’ Enclosure, which was used by subscribers, was well filled with spectators. In spite of the conditions, some interesting racing took place. The elements were, however, too good for Eton Excelsior in the Maiden Fours and Clifton in the Junior Fours, both boats becoming waterlogged and sinking, the crews having to swim ashore. Eton Excelsior’s Junior Four, although they got together at very short notice, rowed splendidly and won the final heat by three-quarters of a length. The results of the finals were:-
JUNIOR-SENIOR SCULLS Final Heat. – R. S. Green, 1; T. H. Tyler, 2. Won by a length in 6min. 14sec.
