HENLEY AND ETΟΝ REGATTAS
Home Clubs In Form
Eton Excelsior and Henley United were in form at their own regattas, which were held in bad weather on Saturday.
Eton Excelsior is one of the oldest clubs on the Thames, and their regatta is now the only event of its kind during the season at Windsor, and the last regatta where open four-oared races are included.
Marlow, who were the holders of the Ruthven Cup for Junior Fours, defended their title. In the final, they found Eton Excelsior, who were represented by their crew that had won at Maidenhead and had reached the final at Staines, just too good for them. Eton won by a length and a half.
In the Maiden Fours, Henley, the holders, failed in their first heat to Eton Excelsior, and then the home club gained their second victory of the afternoon over Marlow in the final, winning by two and a half lengths. Reading, the holders of the Double Sculling Cup, who were represented by L. D. Habbitts and S. W. Latham, again reached the final, but were then beaten by a length by V. A. Wood and N. Miroy, an Eton and Anglian combination.
At Henley, the home club, Henley United, won the Senior and Junior Fours and the Senior and Junior Sculls. It was an excellent performance, for their opponents included Barnes Bridge (stroked by Bert Barry), Reading Tradesmen, Staines Town, Reading Labour, Parkside A.C., Sons of the Thames, Hammersmith Town Putney Town, and Sons of the Isis. E. Arlett, the Leander Club boatman, won the Senior Sculls, and A. Holloway the Junior Sculls.
