ROWING.
The Eton Excelsior Rowing Club held their annual Four-Oar Race for the “King” Cup on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The course was from the telegraph pole to E.C.B.H. [Eton College Boathouse] “rails”. Four crews entered. Tuesday’s results were as follows:
Heat 1 : A. G. Blake’s crew (Berks), 1; J. B. Powell’s crew, 2. Won by 1½ lengths in 4 min. 27 sec.
Heat 2: P. Watson’s crew (Bucks), 1; D. A. Bond’s crew, 2. Won by ¾ of a length in 4 min. 20 sec.
The final was rowed on Wednesday and resulted in a win for P. Watson’s crew (Berks) by ¾ of a length in 4 min. 15 sec. But for an accident which befell the Bucks crew, the result would have been a win for either crew by a very small margin.
The crews were as follows: Pannell, H. R. Davies, V. H. Hobbs, P. Watson (str), B. J. Cork (cox). C. Tuckey, L. Keys, R. J. Cork, A. G. Blake (str.), C. D. Dyson (cox). D. A. Budd, R. W. Bashford, N. J. Nicholls, J. B. Powell (str.), A. Sharratt, L. Shore, D. R. Goodchild, D. A. Bond (str.).
The Club’s eighty-fourth annual regatta is on 29th August.
