Eton Excelsior Ball
The Eton Excelsior Rowing Club Ball at the Castle Hotel, Windsor, has come to be regarded as one of the chief dances of the season. On Monday the function was organised with all the Excelsior thoroughness for detail. The ballroom was very tastefully decorated with amber and blue, the club’s colours, while sculls arranged at intervals round the walls added to the decorations.
About three hundred dancers enjoyed a very happy evening. Mr. A. C. Sadler supplied the band, which was under the direction of Mr. Aubrey Roe. The musicians worked exceptionally hard, giving encore after encore even when they ran into double figures. The Paul Jones was easily the most popular dance on the programme. During the evening, carnival novelties were distributed and added to the fun.
Owing to the enthusiasm of the dancers and their demand for an extension, the ball was continued until two o’clock on Tuesday morning when “Auld Lang Syne” brought a very happy gathering to a conclusion. Mr. A. Bellringer, as usual, worked very hard to ensure the success of the evening and the comfort of all. He was certainly a most efficient M.C. Messrs. V. H. Hobbs and A. Bellringer, the hon. organisers, who, with the committee and Mr. Hartman of the Castle Hotel, were responsible for the arrangements, are to be heartily congratulated on adding yet another successful dance to their long series of functions.
