A RECORD ENTRY FOR MARLOW REGATΤΑ
In pre-war days, the Marlow Rowing Club Regatta and river sports was always one of the most popular events of its kind held on the river, but the interest shown in the Regatta which the Club is organising this year, on behalf of the funds of the Red Cross, surpasses anything received in pre-war days. Over five hundred individual entries have been received for the nine events on the “card” for the Regatta which takes place next Saturday, and this will necessitate a programme of 48 heats and finals. Racing, will commence at 10.30 a.m. and, except for a short break for lunch, will continue throughout the day until 8 p.m. No fewer than fourteen crews entered for the Invitation Clinker Fours, including seven Royal Air Force crews, two Royal Army Service Corps crews, two Borlase School crews, two Eton Excelsior crews and the City of London Police. For the other events, Soldiers, Airmen, WAAFS, ATS, and Airborne troops are amongst the competitors. The whole of the “gate” takings at the Rowing Club lawn will be given to the Red Cross, and the day will be brought to a close by a dance.
