Burnham Pilot Awarded D.S.O.
“CONSPICUOUS GALLANTRY DURING MALTA CONVOY”
A twenty-five-year-old Burnham pilot in the Fleet Air Arm, who was decorated with the D.S.C. for his courageous flying in the Battle of Britain, has been awarded the D.S.O. for conspicuous gallantry in repelling attacks on a Malta convoy in the Mediterranean.
He is Lieut. Richard John Cork, R.N., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Cork, of “Lurley,” Dawes East-road, Burnham.
Educated at Slough Grammar School, he was a member of the Windsor Rugby and Eton Excelsior Rowing Clubs, and joined the Fleet Air Arm a year before the outbreak of war. At present he is on instructional duties.
His younger brother is a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery and is serving with the Eighth Army in Libya.
