Did you know that the Borough has connections to some remarkable Victoria Cross stories?
The Victoria Cross, introduced by Queen Victoria in 1856, remains the highest award for bravery “in the presence of the enemy”.

We have identified nearly fifty VC recipients with a connection to Borough. We have created a web page dedicated to their stories. Lest we forget.
We also document the rare occurrence of fathers and sons both receiving the Victoria Cross. Only three such family pairs exist — and several were educated at Eton College.
And there is also a mention about streets both in Broom Farm area and in the Windsor Cemetery that are named after VC recipients.
It’s remarkable to think that within the Borough are links to some of the bravest acts recorded in British military history.
