A small booklet with a big story behind it…
Huge thanks to Diana for kindly donating this original local WW2 clothing ration book. These booklets were an essential part of everyday life during wartime Britain, allowing both civilians and servicemen to exchange coupons for authorised clothing items during periods of severe shortage and rationing.

The booklet contains strict instructions for use, including the requirement for the holder to write their name and National Registration number in ink before it could be used. Shopkeepers were instructed to cut coupons directly from the book, as loose coupons were considered illegal. So valuable was this ration book that it was carefully protected inside a leather wallet, helping preserve a remarkable piece of local social history for future generations.
We are planning to include it in a new WW2 Clothing display at our next Open Day later this year. More information closer to the time!
