The Devereux Cup
(Presented to the Eton Excelsior R.C. by Mr. E. C. Devereux, 1902)
This race, for junior members of the Eton Excelsior R.C., was rowed on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, when very promising form was shown, especially by some of the new members, and if this, is maintained, the Club should do well at open regattas again this year. Results:
Heat 1, Berks: J. G. White (stroke), H. Keith, F. Wilcox, E. H. Parkes (bow), 1; Bucks: A. Sharrett (stroke), G. Jones, J. V. B. Corps, R. C. P. Hunt (bow), 2. Won by length.
Heat 2. Bucks: A. Gurney (stroke), A. Shiach, H. G. Nichols, Barnes (bow), 1: E. C. Smyth (stroke), J. Frampton, M. S. F. Mackett, H. L. Davis (bow). 2. Won by 2 lengths.
Heat 3. Bucks: C. Marment (stroke), E. T. Watson, C. Radbourne, A. C. Frazer (bow), 1. Winner of Heat 1., 2. Won by length.
Final: Gurney’s crew beat Marment’s crew by half a length after a very close race. A Junior-Senior eight will represent the Club at Walton Regatta tomorrow.
