Death of Sir George Peters, J.P.
A Former Mayor of Windsor
We regret to record the death of Sir George Henry Peters, J.P., which took place on Wednesday afternoon, at his residence, Ouseley Lodge, Old Windsor. He had been in ill-health for over three years. Throughout his career Sir George had been closely identified with the life of the town and of the county of Berks.
Sir George was particularly interested in all kinds of sport in the two towns. He was President of the Windsor and Eton Football Club from its commencement until recently, and took the keenest interest in the doings of the Club, attending many of the principal matches. He was one of the founders of the Oswald McCloskie Schools’ Shield competition and was President of the organisation to the date of his death. Another club in which he took the liveliest interest was the Eton Excelsior Rowing Club, of which he was president for a very long period until his death. He gave a handsome cup to be competed for annually by eights composed of Windsor and Eton members and until he was taken ill he took pleasure in following the race and in presenting the cup to the successful oarsmen.
