ETON EXCELSIOR ROWING CLUB

A Junior Eight and a Junior Four represented the Excelsior Club on Saturday at Staines Regatta.

In the first heat of the Junior Eights the Excelsior crew were drawn against Barclays Bank (this was rowed on the Friday evening).  After being down by a quarter of a length at the first quarter, they gradually drew level and went away to win by 1½ lengths.

The second heat they drew Ottershaw College, who were 6 ft. up after the first half minute; at half way they were three-quarters of a length up.  From there the Excelsior crew spurted and gradually drew level and then proceeded to go ahead to win by one length in 4 min. 46 sec.

In the final they met Vesta Rowing Club.  The Excelsior crew, rowing forty in the first minute, immediately took the lead, which they increased to one length in 2 minutes.  In spite of repeated spurts by Vesta the Eton crew held their lead and went on to win by 1¼ lengths in 4 min. 42 sec.

The other crews in this race were Beaumont College, Latimer School and Polytechnic School.

The crew were as follows: W. Fraser (bow), L. Lawson, J. D. Marrs, E. A. Blore, J. J. Sowerby, A. W. Aubrey-Jones, E. P. Chasty, B. J. Cork (stroke), J. R. Randall (cox).

The Junior Four met Maidenhead R.C. in their first heat.  This was a very good race; there was never more than a few feet in it until right at the end, when Maidenhead went up to win by half a length.

The crew was. as follows: S. H. Mayes (bow), T. G. Hardwick, E. Pulvermacher, B. W. D. Bransden (stroke), T. Jones (сох).  The same crew that won at Staines on Saturday will row Junior-Seniors at Molesey Regatta, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday).
