ETON EXCELSIOR R.C. REGATTA

Record Entry for “Ruthven ” Challenge Cup

The oldest rowing club on the Thames, Eton Excelsior, hold their eighty-eighth annual regatta to-morrow (Saturday).  It takes place from the Eton College Boathouse Company’s rafts, again kindly lent for the occasion.  A first-class programme has been arranged, the opening race being timed for 2 p.m.

Given a fine day some excellent sport seems assured.

In the Open Junior Fours for the “Ruthven” Challenge Cup eight crews have entered, a record.  Birmingham Rowing Club are taking part and it marks their first visit to Windsor.  Other clubs figuring in the race are Worcester Union R.C., Westward Ho!, Reading, Henley, Marlow, Maidenhead and Eton Excelsior.

Other principal events include Open Maiden Fours for the “Jacobs” Challenge Cup and Open Double Sculling for the “Wakefield” Memorial Cup.

There will be the usual club races, besides scratch fours and dongola, canoe and dinghy races for men and women.  Entries for the scratch events close at 4 o’clock on the day of the regatta.

The Mayor of Windsor (Mrs. Carteret Carey) has consented to distribute the prizes.  Afterwards, a regatta flannel dance at the Castle Hotel is expected to draw a large company.
