ROWING
THE ETON EXCELSIOR R.C.
On Saturday the Eton Excelsior R.C. sent an eight, a four and a sculler to Mortlake R.C., whose boathouse is situated just above the new Chiswick Bridge, for a friendly regatta. After a very close race, the Eton Excelsior’s eight won by half a length over a mile course, but the four and the sculler were beaten. The conditions on the tideway are very different from the smooth water at Eton; the wind against tide made the water quite rough and the passing of tugs at intervals added to this. The crews were as follows:
Eight: A. Sharratt, R. J. Cork, C. Tuckey, J. B. Powell, F. Buck, V. Bond, N. J. Nicholls, A. G. Blake (str), L. H. Dismore (cox),
Four: L. H. Dismore, P. Watson, A. Verney, S. Shore (str), J. Cork (cox),
Sculler: A. G. Blake.
On Saturday the Mortlake R.C. are sending some representatives to Eton for a return; the races will be rowed over the Datchet course about 4 p.m.
