Sir, the recent flooded state of the river affords an opportunity for once again pointing out the difficulties with which the Eton Excelsior Rowing Club is faced in endeavouring to make a worthy showing at the up river regattas. For over a week, egress from our old boathouse below the Bridge has been impossible, and as a result the training of our crews has necessarily been held up. Had our scheme for building a Club boathouse on the “Deadwater Eyot” above Bridge happily come to fruition we could have carried on our training without interruption. Our recent appeal and competition has been a great success, for which we are very grateful to all who gave us their support. It has brought us in a substantial sum, but a further £700 is still wanted before we can make a definite move. Despite the handicap under which our crews have been suffering we are determined to go ahead and do our best to uphold the honour of the oldest up-river rowing club on the Thames during the coming regatta season.
