From Our Files – Fifty Years Ago
Eton Excelsior Club Regatta – Saturday 27th August, 1881
This annual regatta took place on Wednesday, when the promise of an enjoyable afternoon was marred by unfavourable weather. A military band was present, and performed a selection of music during the afternoon. The course was, as usual, from Clewer Point to Goodman’s Raft. Mr. C. Wise acted as umpire and Mr. G. W. Wright Judge. In the evening the Club with their friends supped together at the Bridge Hotel. Mr. C. Wise, Captain of the Club, took the Chair.
