Marlow Win Ruthven Cup
Nicholls Falls Out of Boat after Sculling Victory
Marlow won the Ruthven Cup for junior fours, which was the principal event at the Eton Excelsior Regatta.
They had hard races in their heat and in the final, for in each case their opponents drew clear of them shortly after the start. Determined stroking by R. H. Good, however, resulted in Marlow finishing very strongly and beating both Albion in their heat and Eton Excelsior in the final.
After winning the senior sculls, H. J. W. Nicholls collapsed and fell out of his boat. He was rescued with some difficulty.
The Jacobs Cup for maiden fours was won by Henley R.C., whose crew had been narrowly beaten at their own regatta. They were much better together than either Eton Excelsior or Marlow, who competed in the event.
Both the open skiff events were won by the holders, Reading R.C., L. D. Habbitts and S. W. Latham winning the double sculls, while Latham and his sister, Miss M. Latham, won the mixed double sculls. Results:—
