It sounds unbelievable, but that’s exactly what an original Rolling Stones poster from Windsor’s legendary Ricky Tick Club achieved at auction.

By the time this poster was printed, the Stones were on the verge of stardom. It marked their last appearance at the Ricky Tick, as their ambitious young manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, had much bigger plans for the band.
The original Ricky Tick at the Star & Garter became too small, and was even considered unsafe. Gigs moved to the larger Thames Hotel and Concert Hall (owned by Reg & Ron Pickin) until a new venue was ready. It was here that this famous poster, designed by Bob McGrath — himself lead singer of the Hogsnort Rupert and his R&B Band — advertised one of the Stones’ final Ricky Tick appearances.
When the poster came up for auction in 2021, collectors from around the world battled for it. The hammer finally fell at an astonishing £30,000 — a world record price for a Rolling Stones concert poster at the time.
Who would have thought that one of the world’s most valuable rock posters celebrated a gig in Windsor?
