THE RACE FOR THE DEVEREUX CUP
The Eton Excelsior Rowing Club held their annual four-oar race for the Devereux Cup on Tuesday evening.
HEAT 1. Berks Station: 1, N. Haines, A. Blake, S. Smith, S. Shore (str.), R. Giddings (cox). Bucks Station: 2, N. Waller, A. Manson, A. Sharratt, R. Cork (str.), L. Dismore (cox). Won by one and a quarter lengths.
FINAL. Berks Station: 1, E. Stubbs, R. Nixon, H. Coking, D. Harrison (str.), L. Dismore (cox). Bucks Station: 2, Shore’s Crew. Won by one and three-quarter lengths in 4 min. 46 sec. Both crews got away well.
At the White Gate Shore’s crew was leading slightly, then Harrison’s crew, taking the advantage of the bend at the Railway Bridge, drew level and took the lead, gradually increasing it to win by a good margin,
