Windsor v Eton Eight-Oar Race
This annual event of the Eton Excelsior Rowing Club took place on Saturday last over the full regatta course from Clewer Point to Firework Eyot. Sir G. H. Peters, who presented the Cup many years ago, started the crews soon after 3.30 p.m., and followed the race in the Etonian motor launch. Mr. T. Boswell and Mr. H. A. Baker (captain, E.E.R.C.) also followed the race in the launch. Mr. T. J. Cartland acted as judge. The race proved the two crews to be equal of strength, for after racing together the best part of the course, Windsor only managed to win by a bare quarter-length after a splendid struggle.
After the race, Sir GEORGE entertained the crews at the Club premises. In the course of an interesting speech he said how he had enjoyed the race, and congratulated both crews, and also said how pleased he was with the Club’s success this year at open regattas. Mr. H. A. BAKER, on behalf of the Club, thanked Sir George, Mr. T. BOSWELL and Mr. T. J. CARTLAND also thanked Sir George.
The following members represented the two crews:-
WINDSOR: W. Brown (bow), T. Luff, C. D. Dyson, A. G. Horlock, J. W. Croft, G. Newton, S. Blane, V. H. Hobbs (stroke), J. G. White (cox). 1
