The Joys of Childhood
Repeat Performance at the Public Hall, Slough, in aid of the EERC
“The Joys of Childhood,” an entertainment depicting the four seasons, which was recently produced with great success by Mrs. Cyril Dyson at the Theatre Royal, Windsor, was repeated at the Slough Public Hall on Monday evening. There was a large and appreciative audience present, including a number who had witnessed the performance at Windsor.
The dresses were most effective, especially those of the Lobster, Shrimp, Mermaid and the Skates. The tiny tots appeared quite at home on the stage, and charmed the people with their quaint little ways and their daintiness in dancing. The audience greatly appreciated the two extra items and the new verse in the rowing song, which was heartily applauded. Miss Priscilla Yates showed remarkable ability as the skater and the Octette and the Irish Jig appeared very popular.
During the interval Mr. C. D. Dyson (captain of the Excelsior Rowing Club) announced that the amount for the Boathouse Fund received from the performance at Windsor was just over £38, and this amount had been raised to £40 by an anonymous donor.
He thanked all present for coming and for helping the fund, and expressed the wish that the total amount from the two performances would reach the sum of £50.
At the conclusion the “Producer” was loudly cheered for the effort she had made in organising this very natural but uncommon performance.
Miss Alma Hetherington greatly assisted the production by writing the music and by playing the accompaniments throughout the performance, assisted by Mrs. Blanchett (violin) and Mr. Admans (‘cello).
