Do you remember The Queen’s Coronation?
Email Elias with feedback and your memories on observernews@berksmedia.co.uk
I HAVE two photographs of Coronation events which happened in Windsor and Eton in 1953. I hope people remember the events and let me know their memories of them.
The first photograph was taken in High Street, Eton in 1953 sometime after the Coronation. I am not quite sure what this event is but it appears to be some sort of procession heading up towards Windsor Bridge. One can clearly see the shop fronts decorated for the Coronation.
The photographs show shops at the Barnespool Bridge end of the High Street. The three shops, from left, are Tom Brown, Tailor, Howard Roberts, Grocers, and Wilkinson’s Jewellers and watchmakers.
Can anyone identify the event or remember the shops in question?
The second photograph was sent to me by Jennifer Evenden who is shown in this photograph as a six year old (girl with frilly hairband in centre of the photo).
The event is a Coronation party held in a hall which has been covered by the East Berkshire College car park.
Jennifer and I would like to know if anyone recognises themselves in this photograph or remembers the hall or what it was called.
It’s over to you … send your memories to Elias at observernews@berksmedia.co.uk
