Magazine celebrates 25th edition

A MAGAZINE that has been keeping the people of Windsor informed about their town’s history for more than 30 years celebrated its 25th edition last week.

The Windlesora is published by Windsor Local History Group, a team of enthusiasts who got together in 1976 to research local history and whose magazine first appeared later that year.

Since then, 24 editions have followed over 32 years, becoming glossier and more sophisticated.
At a celebration on Friday last week at the Constitutional Club in Sheet Street, the history group’s chairman, Hester Davenport, paid tribute to the late curator of Windsor Museum, Judith Hunter, who was among the first contributors to Windlesora.

dreamed that the first magazine-typed out and then photo-Mrs Davenport said: “I wondered if she would ever have copied would one day evolve into its present form as a sophisticated production in colour.“

The 25th edition has taken ‘people‘ as its theme.

Mrs Davenport said: “It is the people who have made Windsor what it is from the highest to the lowest everyone from a king to a pair of incompetent thieves who all feature in the current edition.“

Guests at the launch included past mayor of the Royal Borough, Cllr Leo Walters, manager of the Windsor branch of Waterstone’s, Fraser Jansen, and Cllr John Fido.

The new Windlesora was officially launched in Waterstone’s next door and will be available there, as well as on the website windlesora.org.uk
