EERC – Two Very Close Races …
Two very close races were witnessed on Tuesday and Wednesday for the cup presented to the club by Mr. E. C. Devereux in 1902. The 2nd heat resulted in a dead-heat; neither crew were more than half-a-length up all the way. Bucks were a few feet ahead down the Brocas, but Berks crew drew level at the finish. The entry was a record one. The final will be rowed this Friday evening at 8 o’clock. Details:-
HEAT 1. Latter, Powell, Turner, Street, Webb (cox), 1; Curzon, Barnes, Bond, Sharrett, Nicholls (cox), 2. Won by half-a-length. Time: 3min. 55sec.
HEAT 2. King, Wilcox, Bedford, Rhymes, Nicholls (cox), 1; Mills, Clark, Reeve, White, Webb (cox). Dead-heat. Time: 3min. 58sec.
HEAT 3. Springett, Gurney, Thomson, Tayler, Hunt (cox), 1; Winners of Heat 1, 2. Won by 1½ lengths. Time: 3min. 56sec.
