ETON EXCELSIOR ROWING CLUB SUCCESS.

It was pleasing to see a winning flag flying from the mast at the Eton Excelsior’s boathouse after the Reading Regatta, which took place last Saturday; this denoted the winning of the “Sandeman” Challenge Cup for Junior-Senior Eights. In the first heat the Excelsior crew won by a quarter of a length against London R.C., and in the final beat Reading University B.C. by three-quarters of a length. In both these races the Excelsior crew were well up in the first minute.

The Club are to be congratulated on this win, which reflects very highly on their coach, Mr. R. Derry.

The crew was as follows: H. W. Nicholl (bow), V. H. Hobbs, J. B. Frampton, I. R. Thomson, D. A. Bond, V. A. C. Wood, F. W. Buck, L. Barrett (str.), J. M. Waller (cox).

Unfortunately the Junior Eight were disqualified in their race as they were a few minutes late in reaching the starting post, although several races were started ten or fifteen minutes after the time stated. Time is time, we agree, but where latitude is allowed for one, it should be for another. The Club is sending a Junior Eight to Marlow Regatta which takes place to-morrow (Saturday).
