EERC Regatta 1878
This Regatta was held on Wednesday last, the course being from Clewer Point to Windsor Bridge. The day was fine, and there was a large number of spectators to witness the racing. Mr. George W. Wright officiated as starter and umpire, and Mr. J. Conacher as judge. Results:—
CHALLENGE SCULLS.—T. G. Dyson, 1; Herbert, 2; Blizard, 3. Won easily.
PAIR-OAR CHALLENGE CUP.—C. F. Dyson and J. Tull, 1; T. G. Dyson and W. Shurly, 2; J. Shurly and Robb, 3; G. Dugdale and J. Herbert, 0; E. C. Devereux and Blizard, 0; C. Wise and Paine, 0. Capital race; won by half a length.
WHIFF-GIG RACE.—T. G. Dyson, 1; H. Bowditch, 2; F. Halliday, 3; Robb, 0; C. F. Dyson, 0; H. Shurly, 0. Won by five lengths; same distance between second and third.
FOUR-OAR RACE.—First heat: E. C. Devereux, J. Paine, W. Shurly, T. G. Dyson, Kempster (cox.); rowed over.—Second heat: C. F. Dyson, J. Shurly, F. Halliday, C. Wise, C. Deller (cox.), 1st; G. Blizard, J. W. Tull, W. Herbert, G. R. Dugdale, Smith (cox.).—The final was a good race all the way, Wise’s crew winning by a yard.
DOUBLE PUNTING.—G. R. Dugdale and Paine, 1; C. Wise and Robb, 2; J. Shurly and W. Shurly, 3; E. C. Devereux and F. Halliday, 0; H. Bowditch and W. Herbert, 0. The winners led all the way, and came in first by fifty yards.
SCRATCH EIGHTS.—First heat: Langridge, B. Bambridge, W. Shurly, Blizard, Dugdale, Bullerter, C. Pardue, C. Wise, Deller (cox.); rowed over.—Second heat: Halliday, Conocher, C. F. Dyson, E. Paine, T. G. Dyson, E. House, A. Prichard, E. C. Devereux, A. H. Dyson (cox.), 1; J. Shurly, Rant, W. Herbert, A. Bowditch, A. Powell, T. Hill, Lewis, A. Puttick, Deller (cox.), 2; Devereux’s crew won by half a length.—Final heat: Wise’s crew, 1; Devereux’s crew, 2. Won by half a length.
JOCKEY RACE.—F. Halliday, 1; C. Wise, 2; G. R. Dugdale, 3; E. R. Dyson, 0; W. Shurly, 0; T. G. Dyson, 0; T. Dyson, 0; G. Blizard, 0.
At the close of the races, the prizes, which were supplied by Messrs. Dyson and Sons, were distributed to the successful competitors by Miss Wise.
