Winter wonderland of Christmas past

MAY I take this opportunity to wish all my readers a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
It certainly has been an eventful year, both for me personally recovering from serious illness and for the recent opening of Windsor Museum. I thought you may enjoy some 19th and early 20th century wintry Christmas views of Windsor.
The first is a Winter snow scene of a farm near Eton Wick and is by A.Y. Nutt. Alfred Young Nutt was assistant surveyor of St George’s Chapel and was responsible for designing and executing arches celebrating Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. He was also an accomplished artist, as can be seen in this Christmas card.
The second image is a view across the Thames to the castle and is in a very seasonal fabric mount decorated with holly. These images come from the Windsor and Royal Borough Museum Collection.
The final image is a view of skaters on the Thames at Windsor. It dates to around 1895 when the Thames froze over. The last time the Thames froze was in 1963.
I will be back in the New Year with some more interesting local history stories.
