Editorial

Welcome to Windlesora 39.

In this issue, our cover picture and first article celebrate the 75-year-old Windsor tradition of Carols on the Hill.

The story of the rescue of the archive of Windsor & Eton Express newspapers is told by Brigitte Mitchell. Brigitte also returns to her childhood home in Düsseldorf to finally honour two of her Jewish neighbours in a very moving ceremony.

There are articles involving Edwin Lutyens, Daniel Gooch, a dedicated team of gravestone readers, a series of quilts to celebrate the Magna Carta, and various recollections from Victorian times up to the 1960s.

Sadly, we have to report the deaths of two of our most stalwart members: Beryl Hedges at the start of the year and Geoff Try, suddenly in September. Both gave so much to the Group, and are sorely missed.

WLHG Out and About

Our annual Open Day on 2nd November 2024 was well attended, and we had a small stall at St Andrews Christmas market in December and a larger presence at the Eton Action Fair in September. Come and see us at this year’s Open Day on 8th November 11 am to 4 pm at the Windsor Baptist Church. We would love to meet you!
