There are record entries for the Eton Excelsior Rowing Club’s eighty-seventh Regatta to be held tomorrow.  The Club is following up its record rowing appearances by a record regatta.  The entries exceed. those of any year; crews are entered from the following clubs – Marlow, Mortlake, Henley, Maidenhead, Reading, Wraysbury and Worcester Union.  The Worcester Union crew entered for the Junior Four class, is composed of four blind men, and everyone will wish them the best of luck, and congratulate them on their grand effort.  Other Junior Fours entered are from Quintin, a well-known tideway club, Marlow, and Eton Excelsior; all these crews have done well during the season, and the racing should be very keen.  There are four entries in the Maiden Fours, namely Reading, Henley, Eton Excelsior, and Maidenhead; here again the racing should be very close.  The largest entry for the open events is in the Gentlemen’s Double Sculling; seven crews having been entered, and many well-known scullers are competing.  Fours crews are entered for the Mixed Double Sculling; the racing in both these classes should be very interesting.

The Mayor (Mrs. F. M. Carteret-Carey, O.B.E.) has kindly consented to attend the Regatta, and to present the prizes at the conclusion of the racing.

Admission to the enclosure is by programme and it is hoped the people of Windsor and Eton will support the Regatta as well as the Eton Excelsior have represented the district in rowing.  The club is now one of the most important, other clubs knowing they have good opposition when an Excelsior crew enters, in any class.  Crews have been entered at every open regatta this season, the eight doing remarkably well, winning at Reading, reaching semi-final at Henley Royal, and retaining the trophies they won at Staines and Maidenhead, the Senior Eights (Thames Cup Class) last year; breaking the course record at Maidenhead.  The Junior Four have been in three finals, and the outlook for Junior crews next year seems very promising.  A member of Excelsior also won the Junior Sculls at Henley Town Regatta.

The races on Saturday will be rowed at approximately five and ten minute intervals during the afternoon, the first race being at 2 p.m.

Some of the events have been decided this week, owing to the large entry on Saturday.

SENIOR SCULLS

Heat 1: R. J. Cork beat A. G. Blake;

PAIR-OAR OUTRIGGER

Heat 1: A. G. Blake and R. J. Cork beat P. Watson and V. A. Wood, ¼ length.

Heat 2: D. S. Harrison and D. A. Derry bear (sic) P. Fitzgerald and A. E. Sharratt, 1 length.

Final: A. S. Blake and R. J. Cork beat A. S. Harrison [“D. S. Harrison” ?] and D. A. Derry, 1 length.
