THE Royal Borough town crier has plenty to shout about after he walked away with the top prize at a national competition.
Chris Brown won the 61st annual National Town Crier Championship Challenge Cup on Saturday, beating competition from more than 25 opponents from across the country and as far afield as Belgium and the Netherlands.
Mr Brown won the competition after a two-round contest where he had to give proclamations about the area he represents and the topic of Prince George.
The former Wembley Stadium tour guide said: “After failing to even remember to stand on the podium in round one and fluffing my first sentence, I was sure I was already out of the running, although I did think I might be in with a chance of winning the ‘best dressed’ award.
“They announced that the winner [was me]. And just for once, when I opened my mouth to speak, not a word came out.”
Mr Brown is the first town crier in the Royal Borough since 1922 and was chosen to take up the role only last year.
