Honour unveiled

A PLAQUE was unveiled at the former home of Brigadier General Sir Alexander Hore-Ruthven, first Earl of Gowrie, in Windsor on Tuesday.

He is one of only two men born in Windsor to have won the Victoria Cross.

He was awarded it in 1899 for saving the life of an Egyptian officer in the Sudan and later became Lieutenant of Windsor Castle. The unveiling at The Hermitage in Hermitage Lane, was performed by the present Lord Gowrie, Arts Council chairman.
