ETON EXCELSIOR ROWING CLUB MEETING
NAME NOT TO BE CHANGED AT PRESENT.
SATISFACTORY REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET.
POSITION OF THE BOATHOUSE BUILDING FUND.
The annual general meeting of the Eton Excelsior Rowing Club was held at the Royal Albert Institute, Windsor, on Monday evening when the president, Alderman George Mitchell, J.P., took the chair. He was supported by Mr. C. Dyson, captain; Mr. V. H. Hobbs, vice-captain; Mr. L. Barrett, hon. secretary; Mr. V. Wood, hon. treasurer; Mr. A. H. Dyson, hon. auditor; Mr. A. Bellringer, assistant hon. secretary; and a good gathering of members.
Following the annual meeting, a special general meeting was held to consider the changing of three of the rules, notably Rule 1 having to do with the name of the club.
Mr. Dyson, outlining the reasons for the proposed change of name to the Windsor and Eton Rowing Club, said that some people felt that the club would get more support from Windsor in the event of such change. Old supporters of the club, including Mr. E. C. Hetherington, Mr. Webb, and the Dean of Windsor, were against the change, while the Mayor of Windsor and others favoured it.
After several members present had given their views on the subject, Mr. A. H. Dyson proposed that the matter be left until the club had its boathouse on the Island, when it would be neither in Windsor nor Eton, and the name would be more appropriate. This was duly seconded.
Mr. Barrett proposed an amendment that the name of the club be changed to the Windsor and Eton Rowing Club. Mr. Wood seconded.
The amendment was put to the meeting, only six voting for it, and Mr. Dyson’s proposition was therefore carried.
Date of Annual Meeting.
Mr. Buck proposed, and Mr. Hobbs seconded that in Rule 9, having to do with the date of the annual meeting of the club, the words “in October or November” be substituted for “in March.”
Mr. Wood proposed an amendment that the words “in March” be deleted, and that the date should be left to the discretion of the committee. The amendment was carried.
Mr. Buck proposed that in Rule 15 “crews shall be picked by the captain and two experienced members selected by the committee,” the word “captain” should be deleted and the rule should read “three experienced members selected by the committee.” This motion was lost.
