At our July meeting, we discussed sedan chairs and their use at the first Theatre Royal in Windsor (as you do). It sparked a lot of questions: when and where was the first theatre, and what did these early taxis look like?

Of course, the answers can be found in Windlesora, this time in issue 22 from 2006, which is available online. Have a wee look at ‘The Sedan Chair‘ by Ellen Dollery and ‘The First Theatre Royal (1793-1813)‘ by Hester Davenport.
Since 2006, more information has been accessible online, including detailed maps, so we have added them to enhance the articles. Feedback welcome if this is something we should be doing or not?
