Not sure if you have noticed, but we are publishing many of our Windlesora articles on the website now. It is constantly being updated so it is worth popping in every so often to see the changes. For example, all of Windlesora editions 1-9 and others are now available, and more are articles are added weekly. But to get to the point …
There is an example of Elias’ work in Windlesora 23 (2007) which has recently been published on our website. It is an excellent article about John Ramsbottom and well worth a cup of tea, a Rich Tea biscuit or two, and a wee read. You can find it here: https://windsorlocalhistorygroup.org/john-ramsbottom/
It was of special interest to the community pub, The Swan in Clewer Village, who made mention of it on “The Royal Windsor Forum“. One of their regulars came across an 1827 indenture in the BRO (D/ECG/T50) regarding the copyhold of the ‘Swan‘ (formerly known as the ‘Bear‘) between Arthur Vansittart of Shottesbrook (Lord of the Manor of Clewer) and the said John Ramsbottom. The document, amongst others about The Swan, was part of the collection of “Records of Messrs Nevile Reid and Co, Windsor, brewers and bankers“. So to The Swan, Elias’ work was of real great interest to set the context of who owned the pub.
Elias has certainly left an exceptional legacy for future generations.
